About the project
This initiative was a joint endeavor between UNOPS and SANAA aimed at providing clean, reliable water access to remote and underserved rural regions across Honduras. As the lead designer on the project, I developed the complete brand identity from the ground up, establishing a visual presence that could bridge high-level institutional communications with ground-level community engagement.
Originally conceptualized under the preliminary naming direction of "Comunidades Resilientes", the project ultimately evolved into its final identity, "Comunidades Fortalecidas", setting the stage for a lasting public-facing presence throughout its execution phase.
Challenge
The central difficulty lay in managing competing priorities across a multi-stakeholder environment while ensuring the visual message remained accessible to a wide variety of audiences. The design needed to satisfy the rigorous brand standards of international organizations and governmental entities without becoming overly abstract or clinical for the local populations served.
Balancing continuous feedback loops from different directions, navigating the strategic pivot in project naming, and synthesizing these inputs into a single, cohesive narrative required a delicate balance between institutional clarity and human-centered design.
Results
The outcome was a concrete and meaningful brand identity anchored in three fundamental visual elements: the mountainous landscapes characteristic of the target regions, the core resource of water, and a central motif of inclusion. This unified graphic system served as the official identifier for the project throughout its entire lifecycle, establishing a seamless communication framework between SANAA and UNOPS.
By grounding the visual language in the actual environment and people it served, the brand successfully built recognition, trust, and alignment across technical field teams, institutional decision-makers, and local community members alike.
